Al Arabiya satellite television channel teamed up with the Shahid platform for a documentary on the life of prominent Egyptian actor, “El Zaeem” Adel Emam in celebration of his 60th year birthday.
The acclaimed actor is one of the most iconic figures in Arab cinema. He was born in 1940 in Mansoura but moved to Sayyed Zeinab at an early age with his family where he grew up. He co-starred in over 100 movies, TV series, and plays.
The documentary titled, "Adel-Emam..-Egyptian-Memory", showcased the role Emam played in delivering messages relating to sociopolitical issues Egypt faced over his career as well as uncovered untold secrets from his life.
In the documentary, Mohamed Krum, a former member of a terrorist group, spoke for the first time about the assassination attempt on the acclaimed actor's life by a terrorist group after making the 1994 film “The Terrorist”.
Krum pointed out that the film provoked all Islamic groups, noting: "Islamic Jihad also planned to get rid of Adel Emam through the group that struck Dr. Atef Sedki, however, they were arrested after the operation of Atef Sedki and the child Shaima,".
"I was assigned to kill Adel Emam by the leader Aboud El Zomor, who is alive and I'm ready to confront him,".
Krum added, "At that time, I belonged to an Islamic group outside the prison. The group knew that my father, who was one of the leaders of the Jihad Organizations was in prison, and used me to pass on their vision, communicate with the leaders in prison, and deliver them the leaders' commands,".
The former member of a terrorist group revealed he met Sheikh Abboud and delivered to him the members' desire to Kill Dr. Muhammad Sayed Tantawi.
While Abboud saw Tantawi deserves to be killed for being deviant, misguided, and one of the scholars of power, he vote against the members' desires out of wariness that the state will use the assassination in the media to distort their image and give them a reputation for killing clerics.
However, Abboud had a different target in mind, which was Emam.
Krum disclosed that Abboud asked him whether there were groups outside the prison ready to do something when affirmed, he requested the assassination of Emam.
"He told me not to ask him any further questions needed and that he will not be able to help them,".
