Sada El balad English Website “SEE” offers its sincere condolences to American people on the 18th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

We embrace you at this difficult time.

Social media platforms were also awash with emotion, with the hashtag #NeverForget 9/11 trending from the turn of midnight onward.

Noteworthy, it has been 18 years since the September 11 attacks left nearly 3,000 people dead in the worst act of terrorism the nation has ever experienced.

On Wednesday, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum will commemorate the lives lost with a ceremony honouring those killed at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and aboard Flight 93 — as well as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

As has happened in years past, the names of those killed will be read during Wednesday's ceremony. Last year, some families of victims infused their own, personal messages of remembrance, inspiration and concern.

To commemorate the historic tragedy, ceremonies are held nationwide and American teachers often mark the day with lessons tied to the event.

On 11/9/2001 at 10.30am the Twin Towers had collapsed, sending people running for their lives covered in dust and debris. Meanwhile, 370 kilometres away, American Airlines Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon building in Virginia at 9.37am, and United Airlines Flight 93 was crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10.03am.

In less than two hours, 3000 people had been killed and more than 6000 injured, including hundreds of firefighters and police officers who rushed to the scenes.
