Netflix has unveiled the first look photo at its thriller series “Man on Fire”, starring emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The eight-episode streaming drama is an adaptation based on A.J. Quinnell’s "Man on Fire" and "The Perfect Kill," the first two books in Quinnell’s five-book series.

"Man on Fire" tells the story of John Creasy, a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations. When viewers meet Creasy, he is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.

The cast also includes Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor.

The character of Creasy was famously portrayed by Denzel Washington in the film adaptation of the book series released in 2004, directed and produced by Tony Scott.

Before that, an Italian thriller was released on the big screen in 1987, directed by Élie Chouraqui, also titled Man on Fire.

The main character was named Christian Creasy, and was played by Scott Glenn.

Kyle Killen (Fear Street) is the writer, executive producer and showrunner. Executive producers include Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency Productions, which controls the rights to the IP and financed the 2004 film; Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Tracey Cook for Chernin Entertainment; and Killen and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven. Caple, Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, and Abdul-Mateen II will also executive produce alongside Stacy Perskie for RedRum.
