The official trailer for Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece”, one of the most popular manga series ever, has finally been revealed.

The first look debuted at Netflix’s Tudum 2023 event in Brazil. It will start streaming on the streamer on August 31.

The eight-episode series is based on the manga series created by Eiichiro Oda, who also serves as executive producer.

“One Piece” centers on Luffy, a young man who embarks on a journey to become king of the pirates — and to find the celebrated “One Piece” treasure.

It stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

The cast also includes McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Chioma Umeala, and Steven Ward.

In partnership with Shueisha, “One Piece” is produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steve Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements also executive produce.

In addition to the manga, which debuted in 1997, Toei Animation has produced 20 seasons of the “One Piece” anime series comprising more than 1,000 episodes. There also have been 15 animated movies based on “One Piece” released to date.

Last month, Oda penned a letter revealing that Netflix has “promised that we won’t launch until I’m satisfied,”.

“Considering my expected life span, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world,” he said at the time.

“If we’re going to do it, I want to be able to supervise things while I’m still active. That’s why I agreed to the live-action adaptation of One Piece back in 2016.”

Netflix is hoping that "One Piece" helps turn things around for its live-action anime efforts, which, to date, have included a Death Note movie and a Cowboy Bebop series that was canceled after one season. The streamer is also developing a My Hero Academia movie and a TV Adaptation of Death Note.
