The "Chronicles of Narnia" movie has received an encouraging update from Netflix.
The Chronicles of Narnia is a beloved children’s fantasy novel series that holds many Christian allegories throughout.
Based on the popular C.S. Lewis tales, the giant streamer will soon reboot the Chronicles of Narnia series, which has last seen the big screen treatment with 2010’s "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader".
Greta Gerwig, known for her success with Lady Bird and Barbie, will be helming the first two movies, who will be adapting a fantasy series for the first time in her career.
Speaking with Collider, Head of Netflix Film Scott Stuber revealed that the Chronicles of Narnia will begin production in 2024.
"Well, I think people know that we’re aspirationally trying to get Greta Gerwig’s [The Chronicles of] Narnia together and get that movie, which will be next year," he said.
In 2018, Netflix announced had acquired the movie and TV rights to "The Chronicles of Narnia" book series.
“Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.” Said Ted Sarandos at the time.
Since the 2018 acquisition, the streamer has yet to announce any projects based on the beloved book series.
Netflix has long talked about franchise ambitions and has been collecting IP to bolster those efforts, including acquiring the Roald Dahl Story Company. The streamer released a movie musical adaptation of Dahl’s "Matilda" and Wes Anderson's adaptation of the author’s "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar".
