The movie is helmed by Carrie Cracknell in her feature directorial debut from a screenplay adapted by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.

“Persuasion” was the last novel written by Austen, the author of literary classics such as “Sense and Sensibility”, “Pride and Prejudice”, and “Emma”, prior to her death in 1817.

The novel has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including the 2007 TV movie starring Sally Hawkins.

“Persuasion” debuts on Netflix on July 15.

Dakota Johnson Spider-Man Madame Web Casting Controversy

On the other hand, Johnson is also set to star in Sony Pictures’ "Madame Web".

The cast also includes Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney, and Celeste O’Connor.

The movie is directed by S.J. Clarkson. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay, with Kerem Sanga also penning a previous draft.

Johnson p.ays the title character, a clairvoyant with abilities to see into the spider world.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains.

“Madame Web” is slated to hit theaters on July 7, 2023.
