Nepal’s film sector is set to gain wider international exposure after a cooperation agreement was signed between the Nepal International Film Festival and TV BRICS, aiming to promote Nepali cinema across the Global South.

The agreement was formalized by NIFF Chairperson Kedar Prasad Pathak and TV BRICS CEO Janna Tolstikova.

The partnership focuses on supporting documentary and television filmmaking, developing industry professionals, and launching joint cultural and artistic projects.

As part of the collaboration, TV BRICS will serve as a media partner for the festival starting in April 2026, helping to amplify the global reach of Nepali films and creative voices.

Pathak described the agreement as a major step forward, emphasizing its role in providing an international platform for Nepali storytelling and strengthening cultural ties among Global South nations.

The initiative also involves the Nepal Film Culture Academy, a Kathmandu-based institution founded in 2017 to promote both national and international film culture through festivals, training programs, and educational activities.

Tolstikova highlighted that TV BRICS already collaborates with more than 20 major film festivals across countries including Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa.

She noted that the upcoming NIFF edition in 2026 is expected to bring together participants from around 40 countries, offering a significant platform for cultural exchange.

The partnership reflects growing cooperation between BRICS nations and the Global South, using cinema as a bridge for dialogue and shared creative expression.

TV BRICS also maintains partnerships with several international film and cultural organizations, including institutions in Cuba, Brazil, India, and the United Arab Emirates, further strengthening its role in promoting global cinematic collaboration.
