As part of the celebration of World Environment Day, which falls annually on June 5, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat (NEMC) organized a number of events that sheds light on various environmental issues.

Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum, said that these events come within the framework of the vital role played by the museum in spreading cultural and social awareness through various activities that encourage action for the protection of our environment.

Meanwhile, Azza Rizk, the head of the educational department at the museum, said a series of workshops and lectures for children between the age of 8 and 14 was organized under the slogan: "Small Garden: Recycling for Afforestation" as part of the celebration, with the aim of acquainting the kids with topics related to sustaining environmental resources, reducing waste, benefiting from waste, and recycling.

World Environment Day aims at providing a platform to voice friends of environment associations' concerns and highlight the negative impacts of global warming on the global community.

The day was first founded by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and since then, over 150 countries participate in various activities to celebrate this day.

The theme of this year is “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”, according to the UN.
