Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), stated on Wednesday that the new US strikes on Iran were "absolutely necessary."
Speaking ahead of a meeting of NATO leaders on the second day of their summit in Ankara, Rutte expressed his support for the US attacks on Iran last night, noting that "Iran has violated the ceasefire."
"I think it is essential that the United States responds firmly when Iran violates the ceasefire," Rutte added.
Rutte explained that he expects NATO members to "reaffirm that Iran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear capability," as well as to emphasize the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The NATO Secretary General had previously emphasized the pivotal role of European nations in the bombing campaign against Iran.
