The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) hosted Swiss Ambassador to Egypt Andreas Thomas Baum on Wednesday for discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting investment opportunities across the economic zone.
The meeting, held at the SCZone headquarters in Sokhna, was attended by Ahmed Gamal, Vice Chairman for the Southern Zone, Mostafa Sheikhoon, Vice Chairman for Investment and Promotion, and several senior officials from the authority.
During the discussions, both sides explored opportunities for cooperation across a range of sectors of mutual interest, while SCZone officials outlined the competitive advantages offered by the economic zone. These include the integration of ports and industrial zones, advanced infrastructure, a strategic geographic location, and a one-stop-shop system designed to streamline administrative procedures and accelerate investment projects.
Ambassador Baum expressed interest in Egypt's experience with special economic zones, emphasizing the importance of strengthening engagement with the Swiss business community and organizing additional joint events to showcase investment opportunities available within the SCZone.
Following the meeting, the Swiss ambassador toured the One-Stop Shop Service Center in Sokhna, where he was briefed on the range of investor services provided and the authority's efforts to simplify procedures and speed up project implementation.
The visit also included a tour of Sokhna Port, where the ambassador reviewed the port's operational capabilities and integrated logistics services, which play a key role in supporting international trade and enhancing the competitiveness of the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a regional investment and logistics hub.
