MTV Video Music Awards 2024 Show Date Announced

The 2024 Video Music Awards, the trophy show’s 40th anniversary, will air live from New York’s UBS Arena on Tuesday, September 10, MTV announced Wednesday. 

The VMAs will across MTV’s linear and digital platforms in more than 150 countries and territories, reaching a reported 319 million households.

“We’re excited to bring this year’s VMAs to UBS Arena, one of the country’s newest and most cutting-edge venues,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events, Paramount and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+. “Celebrating one of music’s biggest nights with the incredible, robust New York area fans is something we’ve been looking forward to since the moment last year’s show ended.”

Taylor Swift was the big winner at the 2023 MTV VMAs, including the top award of the night Video of the Year for “Anti-Hero.” 

Other winners included Shakira with the Video Vanguard Award as well as Best Duo alongside Karol G for their song “TQG.” Anitta took Best Latin for “Funk Rave,” while Nicki Minaj won the Best Hip-Hop trophy for “Super Freaky Girl.”

Last year, MTV saw its highest-rated VMAs in three years among the 18-49 demographic with a 1.03 (compared to a 0.58 in 2020). Among adults 18-34, the show saw its best rating since 2019, up 118% to a 1.14. 

The awards show also saw 37% growth in total viewers year-over-year with 865,000 people tuning in to MTV to watch the show, versus 630,000 in 2022.
