Mostafa El Feki Announces Inauguration of Hassanein Heikal Exhibition at Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Mostafa El-Feki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina announced the inauguration of the exhibition “Mohamed Hassanein Heikal… A Life Journey”; next Tuesday as part of the BA's ongoing projects to document the heritage of Egyptian icons.

In 2019, Hedayt Taymour, Heikal's wife has signed with Mustafa El-Feki the final agreement to preserve the Heikal Library and its unique holdings and documents in the BA.

The library received an important and huge donation from the Haykal family, as his personal library was moved to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and a team from the library helped place books and the library as it is in his apartment in Dokki to inaugurat the first documentary exhibition for Heikal.

El-Feki added that the exhibition includes a set of the most important personal papers, including his birth certificate, family card, a certificate of completion of primary education, a photocopy of his handwritten will, and a set of his diplomatic and personal passports.

The exhibition will also include a group of the great journalist's personal belongings, such as his wristwatch, his ring, and a set of his pens and badges, in addition to a number of his own portraits, and a group of press caricatures drawn by the most prominent cartoonists for him.

The exhibition contains an important collection of the late’s holdings of a number of rare historical maps of Egypt, some historical documents written in the handwriting of the late President “Gamal Abdel Nasser,” a number of drafts of “Heikal” books, and drafts of his famous column “Al-Ahram” in his own handwriting, in addition to a number of Historic daggers.

It will also include a collection of its rarest pictures with a group of prominent international personalities, such as Guevara, Tito, Khomeini, Khrushchev, Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Indira Gandhi, Yasser Arafat, and other international figures, along with a group of his photos with Presidents Nasser and Anwar Al-Sadat, and among his meetings with personalities such as Umm Kulthum, Mahmoud Fawzy, Tawfiq Al-Hakim, Abdel Halim Hafez.

On the exhibition shelves there are about 4,000 books that include his publications in various editions, and other books ranging from the fields of literature, heritage, politics, economics, and the arts.
