The organizing board of the Moscow International Film Festival announced on Friday that postponing of the forthcoming event to the second half of the year.

According to Sputnik, the organizers of the 44th Moscow International Film Festival revealed that they will announce the new dates, in addition, they expressed their gratitude to all filmmakers who confirmed their participation at the upcoming edition.

The rising escalations between Russia and Ukraine is the main motive behind such a decision.

It was supposed that the forthcoming event would take place between April 21-28.

It is worthy to mention that since the beginning of the Russian military operations in Ukraine, several of international institutions halted their activities in Russia, including arts and cinema concerned operations and services such as Netflix.

Netflix has suspended its service in Russia, a company spokesperson announced early this week.

Earlier this week, the giant streamer stopped production on all its upcoming Russian-language series and paused future acquisitions from Russia amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

“Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia,” the spokesperson stated.

Netflix had earlier said it will not distribute the 20 Russian free-to-air propaganda channels, despite a regulation that would require it to distribute state-backed channels.

In December 2021, the streamer was added by Roskomnadzor, to its register for audiovisual services after it reached over 100,000 subscribers.
