The International Forum of Russian and Soviet University Alumni opened in Moscow on Tuesday, bringing together representatives from 42 countries to strengthen ties between graduates and their former universities.

Organized by the World Association of Alumni, the forum is supported by Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Russian Technological University.

The event seeks to enhance cooperation in education, science, culture, and business among graduates of Russian and Soviet institutions worldwide.

The opening ceremony featured addresses by Valery Falkov, Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education; the Deputy Foreign Minister; Sangadzhi Tarbaev, a member of the State Duma for Tourism Affairs; Yevgeny Primakov, Head of the Federal Agency for International Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo); Vladimir Filippov, former Minister of Higher Education and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Education; and Dr. Tony Maalouf, President of the Arab Union of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities.

Egypt was among the participating nations, represented by officials, academics, and alumni involved in promoting educational and cultural collaboration with Russia.

The forum’s program includes visits to several Russian universities to explore new partnerships and sign cooperation agreements with foreign institutions. Delegates will also take part in cultural tours of Moscow’s leading museums and historical sites.

Sherif Gad, a member of the forum’s preparatory committee, said the October 2025 event marks the first phase of preparations for a larger international conference planned for 2026, expected to gather around 1,500 alumni from Russian and Soviet universities in Moscow.
