"Dungeons & Dragons" duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein closed a deal to write a movie based on the board game Monopoly.

Lionsgate is the studio behind the project that is being produced by Barbie outfit LuckyChap and Hasbro Entertainment.

Monopoly dates back to 1935, and challenges players to acquire properties and build houses and hotels, all while avoiding bankruptcy and the dreaded “go directly to jail” card.

The game was created as a way of showing that the consolidation of wealth is overall bad for the health of an economy. Nearly 1 billion copies of the game have been sold, and just as many explosive family arguments have been waged over the game.

Lionsgate has long tried to figure out a movie based on Monopoly, with another version of the project having Kevin Hart attached to star and Tim Story on board to direct.

The studio extended its rights to Monopoly when it completed its purchase of Hasbro’s film and TV arm eOne.

Daley and Goldstein previously worked with Hasbro on 2023’s "Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves". The Paramount movie grossed over $200 million at the global box office.

The duo also directed the beloved action comedy "Game Night" starring Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman. Most recently, they wrote and directed the upcoming Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh action adventure "Mayday" for Apple.
