“La Casa de Papel” (Money Heist) spinoff series, “Berlin” has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.

Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato’s series will begin filming next year.

“Money Heist” was created by Alex Pina and tells the story of the heists through the perspective of one of the robbers, Tokyo, played by Ursula Corbero.

It also starred Álvaro Morte, Itziar Ituño, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, Esther Acebo, Enrique Arce, Rodrigo de la Serna, Darko Peric, Najwa Nimri, Hovik Keuchkerian, Luka Peros, Belén Cuesta, Fernando Cayo, Fernando Soto, Jose Manuel Poga and Mario de la Rosa.

The prequel centers around the popular character also known as Andrés de Fonollosa (played by Pedro Alonso), the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo.

"Berlin" was created by Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina. The series is scripted by David Oliva, David Barrocal, Esther Martinez Lobato, and Álex Pina.

Berlin, played by Pedro Alonso, will return alongside his entire gang for another run of the spin-off, which was made off the back of the huge global success of Money Heist.

It stars Michelle Jenner (Isabel), who plays Keila, an expert in electronic engineering, Tristán Ulloa (Fariña) as Damián, a philanthropic professor and Berlin’s confidant, Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden) is Cameron, a kamikaze who always lives on the edge, Julio Peña Fernández (Through My Window) plays Roi, Berlin’s faithful squire, and Joel Sánchez brings Bruce to life, the relentless man of action in the gang.

Netflix revealed, "Berlin" was its most-watched series globally during premiere week last year, reaching the top 10 in 91 countries.

"It then remained in the non-English TV top 10 for seven consecutive weeks, amassing 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views," the streamer added.

The spinoff acts as a prequel to Money Heist, following the protagonist on a different caper.

It also offers an exploration of Berlin's backstory to a time when he was an enthusiastic and carefree thief, in stark contrast to his role as the morally complex second-in-command in the original series.

Vancouver Media is producing again.

"Money Heist" ran for three seasons across five parts, first on local network Antena 3 and then on Netflix.

It ended in 2021 and is one of Netflix’s most popular international titles of all time.
