The official teaser for the “La Casa de Papel” (Money Heist) spinoff series, “Berlin” has been unveiled.
"Money Heist" premiered in May 2017 and is one of Netflix's most popular non-English language original series.
The series aired its final episode after five seasons in December 2021.
"Money Heist" is created by Álex Pina and traces two long-prepared heists led by the Professor (Played by Álvaro Morte), one on the Royal Mint of Spain, and one on the Bank of Spain.
Set at first in Madrid and eventually in spots all around the world, “La Casa de Papel” revolves around a ragtag group of misfits who decide to break into the Spanish mint to print and then steal millions of Euros in untraceable cash.
Netflix expanded the heist universe and ordered a spinoff of the hit series in December 2021.
The series is centered around the beloved character Berlin, otherwise known as Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso.
The Berlin character is the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo.
The spinoff will also star Michelle Jenner as Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña as Roi, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce.
It is co-written by Pina, David Oliva, David Barrocal, and Esther Martinez Lobato.
During Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event, Pina and Alonso discussed the upcoming spinoff.
“This is going to be a trip throughout the golden years of the character. When he was stealing all over Europe, madly in love,” Pina said.
"Berlin" is not the only spinoff that has come from the success of La Casa de Papel.
The original series has spawned a South Korean remake titled Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. The success of the series was in line with the high performance many Korean series have enjoyed on Netflix.
"Berlin" is slated to arrive on the platform sometime in 2023.
