Initiated by the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, the Egyptian Caricature Association, and the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association, an agreement was reached to organize an international caricature exhibition honoring renowned artist Mohamed Sobhi, inspired by his artistic works throughout his distinguished career.
The initiative was officially announced during a cultural gathering held at Senbel for Culture and Arts, attended by Mohamed Sobhi, along with a group of artists, intellectuals, media figures, and members of the board of the Egyptian Caricature Association.
The event opened with a speech by Sherif Ged, Head of Cultural Activities at the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo and Secretary-General of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association, who stated that the exhibition represents a tribute to one of Egypt’s most influential artistic figures. He praised Sobhi’s long-standing artistic journey and his profound impact on generations, highlighting his role in instilling noble values, ethics, and positive behavior in children and youth.

In his speech, Mohamed Sobhi expressed his deep appreciation to the Russian side, the Egyptian Caricature Association, and the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association for the initiative. He emphasized the vital role of caricature art in raising social awareness and supporting culture, describing it as one of the most powerful forms of artistic expression capable of addressing diverse issues in a creative and impactful way.
For his part, Mostafa El-Sheikh, President of the Egyptian Caricature Association, affirmed that honoring Mohamed Sobhi is a great honor for the association, announcing plans to organize a caricature exhibition dedicated to celebrating Sobhi’s personality and creative legacy. He also noted that the association recently won the award for Best Exhibition held on the sidelines of the Cairo International Book Fair, along with a financial prize of EGP 250,000 granted by the Ministry of Culture.

In a gesture of appreciation for the association and caricature artists, Mohamed Sobhi announced a personal donation exceeding the value of the Ministry’s award, reflecting his strong belief in the importance of caricature art and its role in supporting cultural and artistic movements.
Artist Fawzy Morsi, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Caricature Association, stated that the exhibition will feature participation from international artists, including artists from Russia. He added that the exhibition will open at Senbel for Culture and Arts before moving to the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Emad Gomaa, Director of the Arab Forum for Caricature Pioneers, expressed the forum’s desire to participate in the exhibition as a tribute to Mohamed Sobhi. During the event, Sobhi was presented with three portrait artworks created by artists Mostafa El-Sheikh, Shaimaa Mahmoud, and Philip Fekry.
This initiative reaffirms Mohamed Sobhi’s prominent position in the Egyptian and Arab cultural and artistic scene, as well as his enduring role in supporting arts and creativity.
