The Dokki Misdemeanor Court in Giza has sentenced Egyptian actor and rapper Mohamed Ramadan to two years in prison.
The court ordered the sentence on Thursday and set a bail of EGP 1,000 and a fine of EGP 10,000.
The ruling has been handed down after a complaint filed by a lawyer who accused the 37-year-old artist of publishing the song “Number One Ya Ansas” “Number One, You Halves/Inferior Ones”) on YouTube without obtaining the necessary permits.
In the investigative report, the plaintiff demanded that the rapper face legal prosecution for using language that incited violence and went against social norms.
The referral came in case number 9213 of 2025, Dokki Misdemeanors, after the Public Prosecution finished reviewing the complaint and hearing testimony from the parties concerned.
The media office of the actor had previously issued an official statement clarifying the truth regarding the recent circulation of news about “Number One Ya Ansas.”
The statement read: “The media office of artist Mohamed Ramadan followed the recent publication of misleading and incorrect news regarding the song (‘Number One Ya Ansas’), and the office confirms that the artist obtained all official licenses and permits from the competent authorities before releasing the work.”
Ramadan, born on May 23, 1988, began acting while at school. He started his career with small roles in TV series like “The Cinderella” until he had his big break in Yousry Nasrallah’s “Ehky Ya Sharazad” (Tell me, Shahrazad).
The actor then went on to star in blockbusters produced by the famous Egyptian producers Mohamed and Ahmed El Sobky, which made him one of the most valuable actors in the Middle East.
Ramadan received the award for greatest nationwide talent three times consecutively – an unprecedented achievement.
He is perhaps the only Egyptian actor to have been praised by the internationally renowned actor Omar El-Sherif who stated that he had chosen him to perpetuate his acting legacy.
Ramadan began exploring rap in the past years and releasing music videos for his singles.
