Archaeologists at the Supreme Council of Antiquities discovered a number of stone blocks with inscriptions and ancient statues during excavation operations about two kilometers southeast of Mit Rahina area.

In statements on Monday, the council's Secretary General Moustafa Waziri said some the blocks and the pink and black granite and limestone statues date back to the era of Ramses II, while some of the blocks made of limestone are believed to belong to the Coptic era.
"Digging will continue to recover other monuments in the area," he added.
