Tom Cruise is back as IMF agent Ethan Hunt with more death-defying stunts in the official trailer for "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning", which will launch in theaters on May 23.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” teases a dramatic ending to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise after eight movies.

At the end of 2023’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” which “The Final Reckoning” was originally billed as a Part Two, Hunt is trying to stop a powerful AI program called The Entity from wreaking havoc on the world and falling into the wrong hands.

In the trailer,  the IMF agent can be seen grabbing on to a fighter plane, running from a Kremlin bombing, and gassing a security briefing, amongst other stunts.

"Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" will see Cruise reunite with director Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he wrote with Erik Jendresen.

In addition to Cruise, the cast includes Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Strickell, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Esai Morales as the villain Gabriel, Shea Wigham as Jasper Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, Angela Bassett as Erika Sloane, and Pom Klementieff as the assassin Paris.

Newcomers to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise include “Ted Lasso” star Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, and Stephen Oyoung.

Cruise has already teased the kind of breathtaking action fans can expect in “The Final Reckoning,” includes an underwater submarine sequence and a scene where he dangles from a plane.

“When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen,” Cruise said in an interview with Empire. “So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”

The entry has been widely speculated as a Cannes Film Festival launch. Cruise will be in London in the days before the festival to collect a BFI Fellowship and take part in a Q&A event.
