Production began on the eighth installment in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise.

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is reprising his role as the seemingly indestructible globe-trotting secret agent Ethan Hunt in the eighth follow-up.

Cruise has been spotted several times carrying out various dangerous stunts for the movie.

After the franchise reached new highs with 2018's Mission: Impossible – Fallout, it was announced that two more movies were on the way.

Production of the movies was set to shoot back-to-back, but upon entering production in Italy, the coronavirus pandemic ground the shoot and much of the world to a halt.

"Mission: Impossible 7" has been delayed numerous times from its original July 2021 release date and is currently scheduled to hit theaters next summer.

The next two installments in the franchise also star Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, and Angela Bassett.

The seventh installment is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who previously helmed “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and “Fallout”. He is also set to helm the eighth movie.

Cruise will next appear in the highly-anticipated movie “Top Gun: Maverick”, which opens in theaters on May 27.

It was originally scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on July 12, 2019, before it was pushed into 2020 and beyond.
