In reference to the disappearance of an ancient bracelet from the restoration laboratory of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has taken all necessary legal measures, referring the incident to law enforcement authorities and the Public Prosecution, and notifying all concerned bodies to proceed with the required actions immediately upon learning of the case.
A specialized committee has also been formed to inventory and review all artifacts kept in the restoration lab. As a precautionary measure, an image of the missing piece has been circulated to all archaeological units at Egyptian airports, land and sea ports, and border crossings nationwide.
The Director-General of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir clarified that images circulated on certain news outlets and social media platforms do not correspond to the missing item. He confirmed that the bracelets shown in these images are already on display in the museum’s second-floor galleries, while the bracelet under investigation is entirely different. It is described as a golden bracelet with spherical lapis lazuli beads, belonging to King Amenemope from the Third Intermediate Period.
The Ministry further emphasized that the announcement of the incident was postponed to ensure an appropriate environment for the proper conduct of investigations.
