Antiquities Installs New Lighting System at Sultan Qalawun Collection, Cairo

Ministry of Antiquities has started installing a new specialized lighting system at collection of Sultan Al-Mansur Qalawun (1222 – November 10, 1290) in Al Muizz Street St. in historic district in Cairo.

Sherif Fawzy, General Coordinator of Project of A Al Muizz, said that this project comes within the constructive cooperation between Ministry of Antiquities and private sector.

Philips Co. cooperated with Art D’Egypte Co. to install the new system of lighting under supervision of the General Department of Historical Cairo affiliated to Sector of Islamic and Coptic Antiquities.

The Permanent Committee of Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities approved installing the new system of lighting at Qalawun Collection.

Fawzy pointed out that the new system of lighting includes the outer facades, inner courtyards of the collection along with a number of surveillance cameras in Bayt Al-Suhaymi, Hall of Moheb EL Din and Courtyard of Mamai Al Syfy ( the swordsman).

Fawzy went on to say that Collection of Qalawun was built in the era of Mamlouk Bahri dynasty.

Building works was extended to two year between 1284-1285 A.D.

This collection is ranked as one of the most important architectural compounds in Egypt. In includes a madrasa ( school), mausoleum dome, an educational hospital which was very known in the Middle Ages and a trough to water animals.
