Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Holds Extensive Meeting to Discuss Proposals for Developing the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir

Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held a high-level, extensive meeting to discuss ways to develop the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and enhance its role as one of the most important global museums and a symbol of the history of ancient Egyptian art. This initiative supports the Ministry's vision to preserve it and highlight its significance to reflect the ancient glory and spirit of the distinguished Egyptian civilization.

The meeting was attended by a select group of antiquities leaders and experts, including archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Dr. Tayeb Abbas, Head of the Higher Committee for Museum Display, Dr. Ali Omar, Head of the Sector for Preservation and Registration of Antiquities at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Hisham El-Leithy, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Hamida, and Director-General of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Dr. Ali Abdel Halim.

At the start of the meeting, Mr. Sherif Fathy pointed out that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir represents an exceptional and irreplaceable historical value, despite the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). He added that it offers a different and integrated experience for visitors through the rare masterpieces it contains, embodying the ancient Egyptian civilization. He stressed that its preservation and development are a top priority for the Ministry in the coming phase, affirming that the venerable Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will continue to perform its vital role and remain an essential pillar in the Egyptian museum system.

The meeting discussed a wide range of ideas and proposals for developing the museum and improving services and the tourist experience within it. The aim is to launch a new phase of development focused on highlighting the museum's identity and reintroducing it to the world in a modern manner befitting its history and stature, alongside developing a new visual identity that strengthens its position.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled emphasized that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will remain a primary gateway to learning about the spirit of the ancient Egyptian civilization, and that its role or status will not be allowed to decline. He added that the museum continues to fulfill its mission as a venerable cultural, educational, and civilizational edifice since its opening in 1902, and that its unique collections constitute an essential reference for all students of Egyptology and lovers of Egyptian civilization around the world. He clarified that this meeting sends a message confirming that the museum continues to develop itself to remain a major competitor to the largest modern museums.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister directed the preparation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the development of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. This plan is to include identifying its unique selling points, setting a phased development schedule, incorporating all proposed ideas and suggestions, enhancing the museum's visual identity, and formulating clear marketing messages to be reiterated through media campaigns. This is to ensure the reintroduction of this ancient monument to the world in a way that is commensurate with its status and history.

The Minister also extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Zahi Hawass, Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, and Dr. Ali Omar for their valuable participation and the insights they provided to enrich the efforts made to develop the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
