Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, participated in a meeting with the Tourism and Civil Aviation Committee of the House of Representatives at the New Administrative Capital. Chaired by MP Sahar Talaat Mostafa, the session focused on the Ministry’s comprehensive strategy to bolster Egypt’s standing on the global tourism map.
The meeting, attended by committee leadership and members, also addressed a briefing request regarding the appointment of international representatives to promote Egyptian tourism and archaeological heritage worldwide.
A Vision of "Unmatched Diversity"
Marking his first appearance before the committee following the parliamentary elections and his reappointment, Minister Fathy unveiled the Ministry’s new branding identity: "Egypt... Unmatched Diversity." He emphasized that this slogan reflects the country’s unique array of tourism products and will remain the cornerstone of international promotional campaigns for years to come.
Key highlights of the Minister’s strategy include:
Economic Security: Maximizing the economic yield of tourism, particularly for local communities, by involving them directly in development efforts.
Investment Incentives: Introducing the "Investment Opportunity Bank," a streamlined platform to showcase available projects and simplify licensing through a "Single Window" system via the Ministry.
Hospitality Expansion: Disclosing that the Ministry has received 244 financing requests totaling 16 billion EGP, aimed at adding 160,000 new hotel rooms to accommodate projected growth.
Vacation Rentals: Regulating the "Holiday Apartment" sector to ensure rigorous safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
Sustainability and Digital Transformation
The Minister underscored Egypt’s commitment to modernizing the sector:
Human Capital: Training approximately 15,000 sector workers through the EGTAP platform in collaboration with the Egyptian Tourism Federation.
Green Initiatives: Notably, 44% of Egyptian hotels now implement environmental sustainability practices. This includes the use of electric, eco-friendly transportation at the Giza Pyramids plateau.
Digital Infrastructure: Enhancing telecommunications at archaeological sites and implementing digital crowd management to improve the visitor experience at museums.
Resilience Amidst Regional Challenges
Addressing current geopolitical developments, Minister Fathy reassured the committee that Egypt remains a safe and stable destination. He noted that the tourist influx has remained resilient, as Egypt maintains secure and independent borders.
Committee Chair MP Sahar Talaat Mostafa emphasized the importance of maintaining this readiness to respond efficiently to regional variables, ensuring the continued stability of inbound tourism.
Global Promotion and Public Relations
Responding to inquiries about international representation, the Minister explained that the Ministry utilizes specialized global PR firms. This modern approach, he noted, provides greater flexibility and expertise in navigating diverse international markets compared to traditional methods.
The meeting concluded with discussions on domestic tourism, focusing on raising archaeological awareness and national pride among Egyptian citizens.
