Minister of Culture Attends 21st Sawiris Cultural Awards, Praises Role in Empowering Creators

Representing Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, attended the 21st annual Sawiris Cultural Awards ceremony. The event was held at the Ewart Memorial Hall within the American University in Cairo’s (AUC) Tahrir Cultural Center.

High-Profile Attendance

The ceremony witnessed a significant turnout of public figures, diplomats, and media professionals. Key attendees included:

 Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade.

Dr. Ghada Waly, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Eng. Naguib Sawiris, Founder and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sawiris Foundation.

Eng. Samih Sawiris, Founder and Member of the Board of Trustees.

 Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Ghar, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Sawiris Cultural Award.

In his keynote address, Dr. Hanno expressed his pride in representing the Prime Minister at such a prestigious cultural gathering. He emphasized that the Sawiris Cultural Award serves as an exemplary model of integration between state institutions and civil society to foster arts, culture, and the "knowledge industry."

The Minister noted that the award has become a landmark annual event, celebrating literary and artistic excellence in Egypt. He highlighted its unique role in discovering young talents and injecting new energy into the Egyptian cultural scene, propelling many creators to the forefront of the Arab world’s intellectual landscape.

 "Recognition is as much a responsibility as it is an honor," Dr. Hanno remarked, congratulating the winners and wishing them a continued path of success. He further voiced his hope that culture remains a bridge for communication and enlightenment, reinforcing Egypt’s regional and global cultural standing.

This year’s edition saw intense competition, with approximately 650 literary works submitted across various categories. The diverse range of awards included:

 Best Novel and Short Story Collection (Established and Emerging Writers).

 Best Screenplay (Established and Emerging Writers).

Best Playwright.

 Literary Criticism and Narratives.

Best Children's Book (Under 12 years).

Artistic Highlights

The ceremony featured several vibrant performances, including a musical set by the world-renowned Ayoub Sisters and a vocal performance by rising star Haneen El-Shatter.
