Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Egypt's Minister of Culture, has officially approved the list of winners for the 57th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) awards. Organized by the General Egyptian Book Organization (GEBO), the current edition is being held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in New Cairo.
The awards celebrate excellence across diverse literary and scientific fields. Below is the full list of recipients:
Literary & Poetic Arts
Literary Criticism (Shared): Dr. Salah Al-Sroui for The Concept of the Novel and Medhat Safwat for The Eloquence of Code.
The Novel: Amr El-Adly for The White Star Agency.
Short Story: Hanaa Metwally for Three Women in a Narrow Room (Published by Wisdom House for Cultural Industries).
Standard Arabic Poetry (Fusha): Mohamed Suleiman for the collection No One Here Will Lean on You (GEBO).
Colloquial Arabic Poetry (Ammiya): Saeed Shehata for Farida.. The Mural of My Mother Who Sold Her Furniture (General Organization for Cultural Palaces).
Youth Novel: Al-Shaymaa Ragab El-Sharkawy for Hymn of a Blue Bird.
Science, Humanities & Heritage
Scientific Books (Artificial Intelligence): Dr. Ezz El-Sayed Sadek for The Role of AI in Supporting HR Management Practices in the Petroleum Sector.
Humanities (Heritage & Identity): Dr. Hassan Mohamed El-Shafei for Alienation and Modernity in Arab Cultural Criticism (Al-Azhariya Heritage Library).
Heritage Preservation (Shared): Dr. Atef Yamani for his editing of Al-Unwan in Recording Births and Deaths of People of the Time, and Dr. Hossam Abdel Zahir for editing Two Treatises on Ijtihad and Renewal by Sheikhs Hassan Al-Attar and Rifa'a Al-Tahtawi (National Library and Archives).
Arts: Salah Ahmed Abdel Halim for The Journey of the Holy Family (General Organization for Cultural Palaces).
Children’s Literature & Translation
Children’s Books: Dr. Rana Hani for The Circle of Safety (Arjouha Publishing).
General Translation: Dr. Refaat El-Sayed Ali for the translation of A Criminal History of Mankind (National Center for Translation).
Children’s Translation: Zeinab Atef Sayed for the translation of The Timeline of Everything: From Extinct Animals to World Wars (Nahdet Misr).
Publishing Excellence
Best Arab Publisher (Shared): Wisdom House for Cultural Industries (Egypt) and Dar Asala (Lebanon).
Best Egyptian Publisher: Dar Om El-Donia, represented by Ms. Walaa Ahmed Abu Steit.
Note: The award for Future Sciences for Youth was withheld this year.
Dr. Ahmed Megahed, Executive Director of the CIBF, stated that the 57th edition awards reflect the fair's commitment to supporting serious creativity and intellectual diversity. He noted that the judging panels consisted of elite specialists who adhered to strict standards of integrity.
Dr. Khaled Abu El-Leil, Acting Head of the GEBO, added that these awards are a cornerstone of the organization’s "enlightenment role." Regarding the decision to withhold the Future Sciences award, he explained that it was a commitment to scientific rigor, ensuring that the award remains a symbol of genuine excellence rather than mere participation.
