Mike Myers has teased that the long-awaited fourth “Austin Powers” movie is happening, albeit with a single word and zero elaboration.
Appearing as a guest on “Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party,” Myers — who currently stars as Powers in a new Verizon commercial — was asked by a fan: “Are we ever going to see an Austin Powers 4.”
Myers’ swift reply was a solitary “Yes!” (to which Noah responded with a “wow, that was a quick yes!”). No further details were offered.
If a fourth “Austin Powers” film is indeed happening, it would arrive after 25 years from the last instalment of the spoof spy trilogy, all created by Myers, directed by Jay Roach and co-produced and released by New Line Cinema.
While the entries — about a ’60s British spy (played by Myers) frozen for 30 years and brought back in the ’90s to battle his old nemesis Dr. Evil (also Myers) — might seem a little dated nowadays, the wildly-dressed character with his frilly ruffled shirts and catchphrases of “Groovy Baby” mostly confined to fancy dress parties, the impact when they launched almost 30 years ago is undeniable.
The first, 1997’s “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery,” became a cultural phenomenon, spawning a sequel in 1999 and a Beyonce-threequel in 2003. The total box office topped $670 million.
Myers — whose last leading live-action role was the 2008 flop “The Love Guru” — has discussed his interest in an “Austin Powers” sequel on numerous occasions over the last decade, telling Entertainment Tonight in 2024 that there were “absolutely” more stories to tell.
He had previously told ET in 2019 that any sequel would likely be told “from Dr. Evil’s point of view.”
