George Clooney’s remake of French political drama "The Bureau" has officially found its lead.

Michael Fassbender has been tapped to star in the project, which has been altered from "The Department" to "The Agency".

Fassbender will also exec produce alongside Clooney and Grant Heslov through their Smokehouse Pictures banner.

Given a straight-to-series at Showtime in 2023, "The Agency" will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime later in 2024.

The series follows Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and eespionage.

"The Agency" is produced by 101 Studios and Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

It is based on "The Bureau", which was created by Eric Rochant and ran for five seasons on French network Canal+.

Fassbender recently wrapped Steven Soderbergh feature "Black Bag" with Cate Blanchett and stars in in Sundance Audience Award winner Kneecap.

Joe Wright will direct and exec produce with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth writing all ten episodes and exec producing.

Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz exec produce for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari exec produce for 101 Studios. Alex Berger, Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton also exec produce.
