On Tuesday, The 76th Cannes Film Festival officially kicked off with Michael Douglas receiving an honorary Palme d’Or.
Uma Thurman presented Douglas with the honorary Palme. he was also honored with a warm standing ovation and huge applause.
He said: "What a hug!" adding: "I’m older now… you represent our second generation very well."
The actor jocked with the audience: "There’s only one Cannes," continuing: "I’m older than the festival!"
Douglas recalled many memories about his “foundations,” and how he started his career from working in an ensemble on new plays in Connecticut to his iconic roles for the TV police drama.
He also paid homage to his father, saying: "To the public, he was Superman, but to me he was my father."
The 76th Cannes Film Festival got underway with the premiere of the Louis XV period drama “Jeanne du Barry", starring Hollywood star Johnny Depp.
