Last Wednesday, Metallica rocked Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium for the first time ever. More 60000 people were gathered at the stadium to witness the performance of the icnoc Thrash/Heavy Metal band.

According to reports, the event caused minor seismic activity. The first tremor came as the legendary rock band took the stage and teased the iconic intro to “Enter Sandman,” a song that’s been a staple of the Hokies’ football entrance for over 25 years.

The song is widely considered one of the best team entrances in college football history, and the crowd knew exactly what was coming.

The second seismic event hit when Metallica dropped into the full “Enter Sandman” riff. Over 60,000 fans jumped, creating a wave of energy that was so powerful, it was recorded by the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory (VTSO), located just a mile from the stadium.

Martin Chapman, director of VTSO, confirmed to Axios that the ground motion registered as comparable to a "tiny natural earthquake" with a magnitude of about 1 or smaller.

However, Chapman clarified that crowd noise itself doesn’t technically qualify as an earthquake because it’s not caused by "natural faulting events."

Despite this distinction, fans have already coined the event the "Metallica Quake" on social media.
