Mexican actress Melissa Barrera has opened up about what she was grateful for in 2023 as it ends and 2024 starts.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, the actress shared her gratefulness for the time with loved ones, and friendships she made as well as for the challenges she took on both professional and personal.

"I'm grateful for a lot in 2023. For the time with loved ones, for the friends I made and for the challenges I took on both professional and personal, but mostly I am grateful for Palestine. l am grateful that they lifted the veil and that I along so many others, have woken up", she said.

Barrera added, "I hope that 2024 brings peace and liberation. I hope that in this new year all systems of oppression are dismantled and equal human rights for all are actually for all,".

"Lastly I wish all those that stayed silent for whatever reason (fear, ignorance, denial) find their voice in 2024 #FreePolestine #FreeCongo #FreeSudan,".

"Free us all from giving away our power by staying in complicit silence. May you have a hopeful New Year," she concluded.

On October 7, Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air.

It said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers. The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

The ongoing Israeli aggression has resulted in more than 21,822 Palestinians killed, with 56,450 injured and thousands still missing —  70% of the victims being children and women. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes to escape the violence.

The figure stands at more than 1,400 people in Israel.
