Mel Gibson and Renata Notni have joined Esai Morales in "Coyote," the border thriller from filmmaker Per Prinz.

The pic tells the gritty story of Hernán Barroca (Morales), a weathered ex-smuggler pulled back into the dangerous world he thought he had left behind.

When Hernán helps Julia and her young daughter, Maribel, navigate treacherous borderlands, their desperate journey triggers the wrath of a ruthless trafficking syndicate.

As the past and present collide — with U.S. Border Patrol agent Bradley joining the pursuit — Hernán must rely on his cunning and grit to survive and find redemption.

Gibson plays Jack Bradley, a weathered U.S. Army Sergeant and father of Border Patrol agent Liz Bradley. Notni portrays Julia, a mother fighting to get her daughter to safety, as she ventures through the borderlands between the U.S. and Mexico.

Written by Prinz and Adam J. Goldstein, the film’s producers are Scott Smith of Fire Tiger Studios, along with Hamid and Camille Torabpour of Winter State Entertainment, and Morales and his Richport Entertainment.

A two-time Academy Award winner, Gibson is coming off "Flight Risk," a thriller starring Mark Wahlberg that he directed for Lionsgate, which was released earlier this year.

He was recently seen in the limited series "The Continental: From the World of John Wick" for Peacock.

Next up for Gibson will be directing and producing the anticipated two-part "Resurrection of The Christ," following up on his 2004 film "The Passion of the Christ".

One of the most prominent Mexican actresses of her generation, Notni led Amazon MGM’s 2024 reboot of "Zorro".

She recently wrapped "Day One," a Spanish-language Amazon series which will release later this year.

Notni is known for performances in the series "El Dragón: Return of a Warrior" and "La Venganza de las Juanas,".
