Lionsgate has pushed the release date for Mel Gibson‘s high-flying action thriller “Flight Risk,” starring Mark Wahlberg, to 2025.

The pic will now open wide on January 24, 2025, contending in its opening weekend with only the Disney-inspired indie horror comedy "Screamboat" and IFC Films’ thriller "Inheritance" starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans.

The movie’s previous frame of October 18, 2024 was a good deal busier — Paramount Pictures’ horror pic "Smile 2", Neon’s Palme d’Or winner "Anora" from Sean Baker and Roadside Attractions’ drama "Exhibiting Forgiveness" being among the titles set to open then.

Based on the 2020 Black List script by Jared Rosenberg, "Flight Risk" follows a pilot (Wahlberg) transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery), who’s been tasked with accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As the trio crosses the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

The project marks Gibson’s first outing behind the camera since the Academy Award-nominated war drama Hacksaw Ridge for the same studio.

“Flight Risk” marks the third collaboration between Gibson and Wahlberg. The first was in the 2017 comedy “Daddy’s Home 2,” followed by “Father Stu” in 2022. This will be Wahlberg’s first time acting under Gibson as a director.

Mark told People that he decided to shave his head every day instead of wearing a bald cap.

“There was no bald cap. I shaved the middle and left the horseshoe around the sides. We just shaved it,” he said. “They would shave the top as close to the scalp as possible every day, obviously because we didn’t have any stubble or anything. So I just hid it with a hat.”

“But the most priceless thing was seeing my wife’s face when I took my hat off after getting the hair cut for work that day,” he added.

Gibson helms the film with a script from Jared Rosenberg. John Davis, John Fox, Bruce Davey and Gibson serve as producers.

Davis Entertainment produced alongside Gibson and Bruce Davey through their Icon Productions, as well as Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios.

Executive producers include Alex Lebovici, Jenny Hinkey, Ryan D. Smith, Natasha Stassen, Allen Cheney, Christopher Woodrow, K. Blaine Johnston, Christian Mercuri, Petr Jákl, Vicki Christianson, Nick Guerra, Russell Hollander, Jon Huddle, Patrick Josten, Walter Josten and Jordan Wagner.
