Seattle is gearing up to welcome Egyptian fans and the national team as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Mayor Katie Wilson assuring that the city is fully prepared to provide a world-class experience for players and supporters alike.
Speaking to reporters, including Sada El Balad English, Wilson highlighted the city’s active Egyptian community and coordination with the Egyptian consulate to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience.
Seattle is ready to host the Egyptian national team for matches or training camps, providing all necessary logistical and technical support.
The city has invested in long-term infrastructure upgrades, including public transport modernization, credit/debit card payments on transit, urban park improvements, and new bike paths, to benefit residents well beyond the tournament.
Economically, Seattle expects nearly $1 billion in revenue from the World Cup, with a focus on supporting small businesses and immigrant communities, ensuring that local neighborhoods benefit from the global event.
As one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, Seattle will hold matches at Lumen Field, currently undergoing upgrades to meet FIFA standards. Mayor Wilson expressed excitement for the city to showcase its cultural diversity, summer beauty, and welcoming spirit to fans from around the world, especially those from Egypt.
Closing on a lighter note, Wilson addressed the role of technology, stating that advances like artificial intelligence will enhance the fan experience and tournament organization, but “football will remain a game played by humans, preserving its heart and spirit throughout the World Cup.”
