Massar Egbari to Kick off 20th Bibliotheca Alexandrina Int'l Summer Festival on August 3

Egyptian underground band Massar Egbari will kick off the 20th Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Summer Festival on Thursday, August 3.

The event is held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's open theatre at 8.30 PM.

They are set to present several of their popular and latest songs.

The 20th edition of the festival will run from August 3 to 1 September, offering an extensive lineup of concerts, theatre plays, standup comedy, workshops, lectures, and family activities.

The festival also features performances by Omar Khairat, Hisham Kharma, Ali El-Haggar, Dina El-Wedidi, Jadal, Hisham Abbas, and Hani Shenouda.

Massar Egbari, which means “Compulsory Detour”, is one of the most famous and oldest singing groups in Egypt and the Arab world.

The band was founded in 2005 and consists of Ayman Massoud, Hany El Dakkak, Ahmed Hafez, Tamer Attallah, and Mahmoud Siam.

Massar Egbari tackles social problems with their music, inserts a mix of Alternative Egyptian Music, and blends rock, jazz, and blues with some Oriental music.

In 2011, the band was honored by UNESCO in Paris.
