Marvel’s First Family — the first characters created for Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby — assembled at San Diego Comic-Con.

A concept reel for the inaugural “Fantastic Four” installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was unveiled to Hall H attendees after an introduction by director Matt Shakman, giving fans a taste of the Space Age aesthetic that will be incorporated into the superhero feature.

A title was also revealed: “The Fantastic 4: First Steps.”

“We’re doing a retro-future ’60s. Syd Mead was an inspiration. The ’60s, to me, is all about optimism,” Shakman told the audience. “I love the Fantastic Four. I love their power set. We want to be true to the comics but we want to be true to life.”

Shakman then stepped aside to show a video meant to give fans a taste of the flavor of the superhero film.

Also announced at the panel, Michael Giacchino (“Up,” “Lost”) will compose the score for “First Steps.”

The panelists are flying back to the U.K. on Monday and production will begin soon after.

The all-star cast of Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic) Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm, aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm, aka The Thing) arrived on stage during the panel.

The cast also includes Julia Garner (Silver Surfer) and Ralph Ineson (Galactus).

Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne and John Malkovich are on board in undisclosed roles.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed that the film will be a 1960s-set superhero story.

Speaking on “The Official Marvel Podcast”, Feige revealed “The Fantastic Four” will be a period piece set in New York City. However, it may not be the New York City many are familiar with.

“There was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol and there was a cityscape in the corner of that image,” Feige said. “There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, or the New York that existed in the ‘60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say.”

Shakman is directing “Fantastic Four” from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.

“Our director, Matt Shakman has already moved to London, and we start filming at the end of July. Funny story, we start shooting the Monday after Comic-Con,” Feige said. “We start filming the day after on Fantastic Four.”

He added, “I’m extremely excited because those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we’ve never gotten to play with or explore in any significant way apart from [Doctor Strange in the] Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way we’re doing that film. So, I’m extremely excited.”

“The Fantastic Four” is set for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
