From pain, hope is born .. This is an inspiring story of Mariam Ibrahim, a graduate of the American University in Cairo (AUC), Graphic Department .. Three years before her graduation, she was injured in an accident, which resulted in brain bleeding leading to a long coma.
Surprisingly, she returned often to consciousness, which left doctors open mouthed. She remained like this for months long until they lost hope in her recovery, but suddenly she returned to normal health and recovered.
To graduate, she had to finish a project, which she thought to make her story. She thought to focus on her suffering and the immediate follow-up, with vital measurements of heat, pressure, and oxygen in the blood and pulse and asked her professors to give her time to finish the project.
She thought of designing special outfits for the patients which are to be equipped with technological capsules to measure all these vital signs and while the patients are asleep without disturbing them or touching them or installing devices on their heads or bodies.
During a year, she designed a white 100% bamboo robe against bacteria and crunches, and it has several capsules connected to a computer that shows the measurements of the body.
One capsule is to measure pressure, another for heat and pulse, and a capsule to see if the patient is asleep or awake in addition to other follow-up measurements of the patient in intensive care .. That is, the patient can be followed remotely.
While implementing her project, she cooperated with a large team of doctors in the fields of brain, nerves, hospitals and nursing.
She cooperated as well with researchers from the National Research Center, in choosing the appropriate fabric for her design, in addition to experts in artificial intelligence, until she reached the final form of clothing.
The design was tested and was widely hailed from her professors and specialists... especially that it is completely from Egyptian materials and Egyptian thinking and can be implemented and produced actually.
A determined girl who has transformed her experience into a creative design that solves an important challenge in the life of every patient.
During the exhibition of future designs held at the American University on the sidelines of its second centenary, Ibrahimm stood to present her design before 30 creative designers in the graphic department, explaining how she turned her suffering into futuristic design.
