Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell‘s anticipated “Wuthering Heights” adaptation is coming to the big screen just in time for Valentine’s Day. Warner Bros. will release the movie from MRC on February 13, 2026.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi attached to star as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff.

Fennell serves as writer, director and producer on the gothic romance based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, which also stars Hong Chau, Alison Oliver and Shazad Latif. MRC and Robbie’s LuckyChap also produce.

“Wuthering Heights” marks the second collaboration between MRC, LuckyChap and Fennell after the breakout hit “Saltburn,”.

It also witnesses the third collaboration with LuckyChap and Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”).

The project sparked a bidding war, with Netflix offering a staggering $150 million for the film.

However, the “Wuthering Heights” filmmakers accepted Warner Bros.’ $80 million bid, opting for Warners film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy’s pitch for a wide theatrical release and a full marketing campaign.

Fennell announced her plans to adapt “Wuthering Heights” as her third feature in July, posting a surprise announcement to social media with a graphic that reads, “Be with me always – Take any form – Drive me mad,” a line from the novel.

There have been a handful of screen adaptations of “Wuthering Heights” throughout the years, including William Wyler’s 1939 film starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, Robert Fuest’s 1970 movie with Timothy Dalton and Anna Calder-Marshall, and Peter Kosminsky’s 1992 film led by Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.

There also were two TV movies — in 2009 with Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley, and in 2011 with James Howson and Kaya Scodelario — and two series, in 1978 and 1998.

“I’ve always been obsessed with the gothic,” Fennell wrote in a January 2024 column for the Los Angeles Times. “the gothic world has always had me in its grip.”

Fennell’s other works include 2020's “Promising Young Woman,” which nabbed five Oscar nominations, and “Killing Eve,” on which she served as Season 2 head writer and executive producer.
