“Barbie” star Margot Robbie‘s next movie, “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” will hit the big screen in 2025.
Its distributor Sony Pictures added the film to the release calendar on May 9, over Mother’s Day weekend.
The studio billed “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” as its “next female event movie” following the Blake Lively-led book-to-screen adaptation “It Ends With Us,” which has grossed $63 million domestically and $93 million globally after six days of release.
“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” co-stars Colin Farrell and is described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.”
Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater also star in the romantic fantasy.
Kogonada (“Pachinko,” “After Yang”) directed the film from a script by “The Menu” screenwriter Seth Reiss.
30West is financing “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.”
Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin will produce the movie with Reiss and Youree Henley. Executive producers are Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen.
After Sony Pictures emerged victorious in a bidding war to acquire the movie in February, the studio’s motion picture group chairman Tom Rothman called it “a project from heaven.”
“Every once in a great while in this job you read a script so special and original, that you fly to the last page, inspired and uplifted,” Rothman said at the time. “We believe the audience is desperate for originality and we feel honored and grateful to all involved to have won out for it.”
