As the long-awaited sequel to 2014's "It Follows" takes shape, Maika Monroe has shared a hopeful update with fans of the horror film.
The actress recently teased that writer/director David Robert Mitchell has written an “exceptional” script, which she hopes to start filming “next year,” noting that the team is trying to make the follow-up work with their schedules.
“I’m hoping—rumors are of next year,” she told Decider. “I don’t need to get into a bunch of scheduling and stuff, but we’ve all been busy.”
Monroe added, “But this script is so good. I absolutely think this movie should get made, because I think fans will be really happy. I think it’s exceptional. We’ll see. Fingers crossed!”.
Written and directed by Mitchell, Monroe starred in the original movie as Jamie ‘Jay’ Height, a teenage girl who is pursued by a supernatural entity that latches onto her after her first sexual encounter.
After "It Follows" was lauded for revitalizing the horror genre, earning a 95% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, Radius-TWC co-president Tom Quinn teased a sequel as early as 2015.
In October 2023, Monroe and Mitchell were finally announced to reunite for the sequel, which will be produced by Neon and Good Fear Content.
