Maait: Health Insurance Fundamental Pillar of Sustainable Development

The Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait stressed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is keen to implement the comprehensive health insurance system, which is the dream of all Egyptians and a fundamental pillar of the sustainable development goals.

Maait, who is also the President of the General Authority for Health Insurance said that the political leadership provides all support for the insurance system, which will lead to reforming the entire sector in Egypt.

This came during the minister's inspection tour on Saturday of the regional headquarters for health insurance in Port Said, accompanied by Governor Adel Al-Ghadban.

The minister explained that all the defects observed during the realistic application of the health insurance in the Governorate will be dealt with very seriously by making some legislative amendments and reviewing the pricing of some medical services in light of the actual cost through the competent committee.

Maait indicated that the committee has already identified 15,000 citizens in Port Said, who are legible to receive a free health insurance, adding that the state treasury will bear the expenses of the new system.

The Minister stressed the necessity of quickly completing the database of citizens participating in the comprehensive health insurance to ensure accurate application of the new system.

He directed to continue building the human capabilities of the regional headquarters' employees through sustainable training programs that qualify them to fully perform their duties, and make them able to communicate directly with citizens, and facilitate their access to high quality medical services based on the optimal employment of modern technology.

"The state is keen on sustaining the financial solvency of the comprehensive health system, making it characterized by sufficient flexibility to keep pace with any variables and ensuring its continuity with high efficiency based on periodic actuarial studies, which will be conducted every 4 years to review the financial sustainability, taking into consideration an attractive work environment," a statement by the ministry stated.
