Following the teaser that dropped during the Grammys, showing M3GAN dancing to Grammy winner Chappell Roan’s hit pop song “Femininomenon,” a new trailer from Blumhouse showcases more of M3GAN’s return.
After “M3GAN” became a surprise horror hit thanks to her viral dance moves and campy tone, grossing over $180 million worldwide on a $12 million budget, the killer doll returns in the aftermath of being destroyed by her owner, Gemma (Allison Williams).
In the sequel, Gemma is now a well-regarded author who advocates for government oversight of A.I. However, Gemma and her niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), soon discover that M3GAN’s tech has been stolen to create a military-grade weapon called Amelia. Gemma must come to terms with resurrecting M3GAN to help destroy Amelia.
Despite misgivings (mostly over the fact that M3GAN tried to murder her), Gemma decides to resurrect the OG doll to combat Amelia, and even adds updates to make her faster, stronger and, well, taller. That sets up a showdown between M3GAN and Amelia, complete with guns, a Teletubby version of M3GAN, catchphrases ("hold on to your vagina") and the aforementioned wingsuit sequence.
Gerard Johnstone returns to direct, as do cast members Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps.
New cast members include Aristotle Athari (“Hacks”), Timm Sharp (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians”) and Jemaine Clement.
The “M3GAN” universe isn’t stopping with a sequel, though, as a spinoff movie, titled “Soulm8te,” is set to release Jan. 2, 2026, from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.
While more specific plot details remain unknown, it is currently being described as an erotic thriller about a man who “acquires an artificially intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”
“M3GAN 2.0” releases in theaters on June 27.
