Universal Pictures has delayed the release of "M3GAN 2.0", the sequel to the sci-fi horror movie "M3GAN", from January 17, 2025, to Friday, May 16, 2025.
The Universal/Blumhouse/Atomic Monster sequel slotting in the place once occupied by an Untitled Universal Event Film.
The sequel hails from the original movie's screenwriter Akela Cooper returning to pen the script and Gerard Johnstone as director.
Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are on board to return for the sequel. Williams will also serve as a producer. She served as an EP on the original movie.
Jason Blum, James Wan, and Allison Williams are producers of the hit movie. Michael Clear and Judson Scott, of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, will executive produce. Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek is an executive producer. Mark Katchur is an executive producer. Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, from Divide/Conquer, are also EPs.
The original movie debuted on January 6 and achieved great success after the premiere. It follows M3GAN, an artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally.
The android is designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma and can listen, watch, and learn as she becomes a friend and teacher, playmate, and protector, for the child she is bonded to.
When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady, Gemma is unsure and unprepared to be a parent.
Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair Cady with her M3GAN prototype in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
While no information on the plot is available yet, Wan previously shared that the sequel will lean into the terrifying realities of a rogue AI with connections not just to the all-powerful World Wide Web, but to the devices in Gemma and Cady's home.
