"Marcel the Shell With Shoes On" director Dean Fleischer Camp has found his next project as he has been tapped to direct the live-action adaptation of the classic animated movie "Lilo & Stitch" for Disney.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is executive producing. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright is in negotiations to write the script. Mike Van Waes wrote a previous draft.
"Lilo & Stitch" followed the friendship formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and an alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction.
The live-action movie was announced in 2018, however, no further updates were provided.
The massive success of the animated movie spawned a franchise that includes three direct-to-video sequels, starting with "Stitch! The Movie", and three television series, including the sequel series "Lilo & Stitch: The Series" as well as spin-offs "Stitch! "and "Stitch & Ai".
The original movie was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.
The voice cast featured Sanders as Stitch, Daveigh Chase as Lilo Pelekai, Tia Carrere as Nani Pelekai, David Ogden Stiers as antagonist Dr. Jumba Jookiba, and Zoe Caldwell as the Grand Councilwoman, among others.
Disney revived many of its animated movies in the past period such as "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", and "Mulan".
