A Libyan court accepted an appeal filed by a son of former strongman Moammar Al Qaddafi against his exclusion as a presidential candidate, Libyan media reported Thursday.
The ruling potentially reinstates Saif al-Islam Qaddafi in the presidential race slated to be held on Dec. 24.
Notably, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi said on Sunday that judicial authorities have refused to hold a hearing to consider his appeal against Libya’s High National Election Commission decision to disqualify his candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections.
The HNEC said recently that Saif Al-Islam was not "qualified to run in the country's next presidential elections," citing his previous convictions.
Libya is due to hold its first round of presidential elections on 24 December, after years of UN-led attempts to end the civil war and achieve political stability.
