The Palace of Manial had fairly humble beginnings. Prince Mohammed Ali Tewfik (1875 - 1954) bought the land located in the Sharia Al-Saray area because he loved hunting and built a chateau as a prestigious lodge where he loved staying in Summer if he had no time to go back to Europe.

After his death, the palace and estate were preserved as an Antiquities Council-directed historic house museum and estate, reflecting the settings and lifestyle of the late 19th- and early 20th-century Egyptian royal prince and heir apparent.
