It's been seven years since the death of the legendary Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, the so-called "The Magician".

Abdel Aziz dominated the Egyptian film and drama industry for four decades as a lead actor.

Born in Alexandria on June 4, 1946, Abdel Aziz was regarded as the father of comedy-drama as he played a wide range of comedy and drama roles across blockbusters, independent films, and on the stage.

He remains famous for his roles in films such as El Ar, Ibrahim El Abid, and The Magician.

While in school, Abdel Aziz developed an interest in theater and made his public acting debut at a school concert.

Abdel Aziz enrolled in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Alexandria University (1964).

Later, he joined the University’s Theatre in 1968, where he acted in dozens of dramatic, classical, and romantic plays on stage.

After graduation, he made his acting debut on television in the ‘Eldwama’ The Whirlpool (1974).

In the 1980s, he was one of the most popular romantic film stars, starring in films such as Sons and Killers, The Flood, and The River of Fear.

While beloved for portraying romantic characters, the maven Egyptian star did not shy away from comedian, dramatic, and psychological roles.

Moreover, he is well-known for some of his seminal works on TV, such as the film “Al-Hafeed” (The Grandson, “El-Aar” (Shame), “El-Keif” (Addiction), “Kit Kat” (1991) and (The Wizard, 2001).

He also played major roles in Execution of a Dead Man (1985), 'Tazwir fi awrak rasmeya' (1984), 'Argouk aateni haza al dawaa' (1984), 'Lak Youm Ya Beh' (1983) 'Al Sada El Mortashon' (1983), and 'Darb El Hawa'.

Abdel Azziz starred in over series, including Ras Al Ghul, Gabal Al Halaal, Bab Al Khalk, Mahmoud Al-Masri, and El Bashayer.

His breakthrough role was as an intelligence spy in the action movie (Rafaat el-Hagan – 1987). However, the Wife Gets The Flat (1985) opened him up to a large fan base.

The veteran actor was the recipient of numerous awards and nominations for excellence throughout his successful career, including Best Actor in a movie for Kit Kat (1991) at the Damascus International Film Festival, Best Actor in a movie for The Captain (1997) at the Damascus International Film Festival, Best Actor in a movie for Pleasure Market (2000) at the Cairo International Film Festival, Best Actor in a movie for The Wizard (2001) at the Damascus International Film Festival, and Life Time Achievement at the Dubai International Film Festival.

Abdel Aziz was married twice, the first to “Gigi Zuid and they over three decades had two children, Mohamed (1981-) and Karim (1985-), both acting in cinema. Then to a prominent Egyptian TV anchor Bossi Shalaby.

In 2016, Abdel Aziz passed away at Safa Hospital in Mohandeseen, leaving fans heartbroken.
