France's Le Figaro newspaper ranked Egypt's match against Argentina among the five best games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying Egypt came within minutes of eliminating the defending champions in one of the tournament's biggest potential upsets.
The newspaper said Egypt took a 2-0 lead through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Ziko before Argentina mounted a late comeback, with Lionel Messi scoring once and setting up another to inspire a 3-2 victory.
Le Figaro ranked England's 6-4 win over France in the third-place playoff as the tournament's best match, followed by Argentina's 3-2 extra-time win over Cape Verde. England's 3-2 victory over Mexico was third, while Algeria's 3-3 draw with Austria completed the top five in fifth place.
